For Parents

How can I help my child get on the right path?

According to the Pew Research Center, unemployment amongst recent college graduates is higher than before the Great Depression. Getting a job these days is not easy and takes skills not often taught in college. Or, if a school has those kinds of offerings, over 40% of undergrads never utilize them.

You are not alone.

There are many reasons why a college graduate may not have a job:

  • A lack of clarity on what they want to do

  • A lack of confidence in themselves and their skills

  • They are applying for the wrong jobs

  • Their search is too narrow

  • Their network isn’t wide enough

  • There are Resume issues

    • ○ A lack of experience
    • ○ Lack of RELEVANT experience
  • There were application errors

  • They don’t make a good first impression

    • ○ Eye contact
    • ○ Attire
    • ○ Language
    • ○ Handshake
    • ○ Attitude
  • Lack of preparation

    • ○ No practicing
    • ○ No research on company

Bottom line: They need help.

You may have the skills to help your child – but they are your child and often they don’t hear your best intentions. Or you may have the desire, but not the time. Or maybe you just don’t know where to start.

This is why we are here.

We are here to guide your child and get them launched into their next stage of life. We will not only assist them in figuring out what is right for them, but how to achieve it.

And helping them get launched successfully is more than just a nice idea: It really affects their future.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that 44% of graduates were in jobs that didn’t require a college degree and only 36% of them were in jobs paying $45,000 or more. More importantly, those in underearning jobs were 5 times more likely to be in the same position 5 years later. In 10 years, three quarters of that group will still be in those positions.
